SCIN Data Lab is a team of young talents at Universidad del Rosario (Colombia) interested in how science technology and innovation works via the lenses of the science of science and network science
- Science of Science allows us to reveal the factors that generate discoveries and innovations as a product of the structure formed by researchers, inventors, groups and research and development centers, universities, companies, and the ideas that they generate
- Network science, on the other hand, allows us to study systems such as communities of researchers, inventors, ideas, inventions or organizations through the different elements that make them up and their mutual connections
By combining these two disciplines, we can gain a deeper understanding of the scientific landscape and how it is changing. This knowledge can be used to make informed decisions about how to support research and innovation.
OUR PRINCIPLES
PURPOSE OVER MANDATE
In SCIN Data we act from inner drive, not imposed duty
FLOW OVER INERTIA
In SCIN Data, we move across disciplines and roles, resisting rigid categories
COLLABORATION OVER INDIVIDUALISM
In SCIN Data, we believe that true innovation comes from shared insight, not isolated efforts

Summer Institute in Computational Social Sciences-SICSS, 2025
Víctor Fonseca, SCIN Data coordinator, participated in the intensive and engaging SICSS program. He worked on a project that applied text-mining techniques to the Antioquia Departmental Development Plan.
SEMESTER-END CLOSING WORKSHOP - 2025
We open our discussion with a narrative: What about if a person follows you everywhere, how would that makes you feel? We agreed that that is a violation of a human right: privacy.
This led us to further explore other human rights, reflecting on how we often recognize their importance most acutely when they are under threat.
We discover that the Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, was that: "Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits".
This principle underpins the very existence of SCIN Data: to promote and enable students to engage with, enjoy, and share science as it unfolds.
Then, we re-imagined the structure of collaboration and the organic growth of SCIN Data, which culminated in the participatory and bottom-up formulation of our principles.
Also, Valentina Rubio, Luisa García, and Víctor Fonseca were promoted to Associated Members.
